Episode 3 - Ghost Machine
Torchwood discovers a machine that allows them to view the ghosts that walk among us. Using it, prompts Owen to investigate an unsolved crime - one that could change all their futures.
01. Chasing the Alien-Part One- 00.41
The episode opens with Gwen and Owen chasing after an unidentified alien whilst listening to directions from Toshiko. They follow her directions along Queen Street, the main pedestrianised shopping area in Cardif, towards the castle. There is a brief shot overhead of them running past The Owain Glyndwr pub which is on the left as you get to the top of Queen Street. This has an offer of a whopping 25% discount to students, so go and check it out.
02. Chasing the Alien-Part Two- 00.41
After Captain Jack turns up we cut back to a shot of Gwen, Jack and Owen chasing up an arcade. As Gwen manages an Indiana Jones style slide under the closing shutter we can clearly see that the arcade is High Street Arcade. This arcade houses loads of cool little boutiques and sole traders but strangely where you exit the arcade is exactly where we started outside the Owain Glyndwr pub. The magic of television ladies and gentlemen.
03. Chasing the Alien-Part Three- 01.39
The chase takes Gwen to Cardiff Central Train Station, they both enter through the front entrance of the station. This is often referred to as the 'Brunel Lounge' as the front concourse of the station is home to many street people drinking their 'Meths on draught'. The chase then proceeds through the station and ends with Gwen grabbing Bernies jacket and finding the device which seem to shift her in time at the back of the station. If you are coming to Cardiff via train, no directions are obviously needed. The train station is also in the same location as the bus station, so most Cardiff buses will take you there. Also located here is the National Express depot.
04. Thomas Erasmus Flanaghan - 05.32
The investigation takes Gwen and Owen to visit Tom, the address in the phonebook says 74 Bryneron Terrace, Butetown. This is not an actual street in Cardiff but we believe it is somewhere in Splott. If anybody knows the exact location, please feel free to contact us via the tagboard on the right or by Email.
05. Bernies Mums House - 10.27
Toshiko and Gwen go to pay a visit to Bernies Mums house, which is said to be in Splott and this time actually is. The actual location is Cumnock Place which runs parallel to the train track. The easiest way to get here is to walk along Newport Road which can be found at the top of Queen Street, the opposite end to the castle. If you walk along and take the second turning to the right which is Fitzalan Place. Walk along here here and take the first left which is Fitzalan Place, continue to the end, cross the road and continue along Moira Place. At the end of Moira Place turn right on to Kames Place and on the right you should see Bernies house (scroll down for more info) and infront of you is the bridge where Owen chases Bernie. You will need to cross this bridge and turn back on yourself to the left hand side. Turn right at the end of this lane and you will spot Bernies Mums house on your right, the first house.
06. Taff Embankment- 10.27
Toshiko, Gwen and Owen are seen talikng about Bernie with the Millennium Stadium in the background. They are standing alongside the River Taff on the embankment. Jack joins them and they walk along the embankment and through a tunnel. This isn't really a public thorughway but you can get there by just hopping over the wall. Taff Mead Embankment can be found alongside the River Taff on the opposite of the Millenium Stadium. The actual tunnel they are under is under the railway line parallel to Wood Street.
07. Ed Morgans House- 29.28
Owen goes solo and looks for Ed Morgan, he finds his house in the phonebook and pays him a visit. Again, the address in the phone book isn't a real address in Cardiff. It's actually Adamsdown Square. For directions here scroll up to Location 05 or see the location map for details.
08. Chasing Bernie- 10.27
After visiting Ed, Owen sees Bernie in the park outside Eds house and begins to chase him. They run around the park in the middle of Adamsdown Square, up Adamsdown Lane in the opposite corner to Eds house, across the heavily graffities railway bridge, along Cumnock Place (past Bernies Mums house) and down Lady Margaret's Terrace.
